HAWAI‘I CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION: NAVY MUST COMPLY WITH DOH EMERGENCY ORDER TO DEFUEL RED HILL TANKS
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) and Mazie K. Hirono (D-Hawai‘i) and U.S. Representatives Ed Case (D-Hawai‘i) and Kaiali‘i Kahele (D-Hawai‘i) released the following statement on the Hawai‘i Department of Health’s emergency order requiring the Navy to defuel its Red Hill fuel tanks.
“The Navy must fully comply with the order and begin the process of planning and executing the safe removal of fuel that continues to pose a threat to O‘ahu’s drinking water. Defueling safely will require a coordinated effort, and the delegation will do everything possible to support this effort. Clean drinking water is essential to our health and safety, and our future—we all agree this cannot be compromised for anything.”
